CIFAL Quito Organizes Training for Provincial Government Officials from Ecuador

Implementing the SDGs Workshop Participants19 June 2017, Quito, Ecuador – The International Training Centre for Authorities and Leaders in Quito (CIFAL Quito) organized a training workshop aimed at strengthening the capacities of government officials from the 24 Provinces in Ecuador to "localize" the 2030 Agenda and assess how each province is contributing to the advancement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The workshop “Implementing the SDGs” took place in Quito, bringing together Prefects from Ecuador to review existing efforts to advance development goals and exchange strategies that contribute to achieve the SDGs. Special emphasis was placed on mapping key stakeholders for successful implementation. Stakeholders have been a crucial part of the process to define the 2030 Agenda. It is important to ensure that they continue to meaningfully participate in the implementation and review process of the agenda.

During the workshop, participants had the opportunity to review the goal targets and discuss how they see their province’s situation for each of them, as well as to assess the extent to which each target is feasible for their respective province. As part of the discussion, officials were asked to identify what is working well and what barriers that might inhibit progress are likely to be.

The last session of the workshop included a roundtable discussion on means of implementing the SDGs, ranging from finance, trade and technology. Also, participants shared different challenges faced to ensure required resources to achieve the SDGs. Strengthening domestic public resource availability and innovative practices to engage with the private sector were explored during the session. Through an interactive discussion, workshop participants exchanged lessons learned and gaps on mobilizing resources for development objectives.
