CIFAL Malaga Hosted a Workshop on Politics and Sociology in the Mediterranean Countries

27 - 28 September 2018, Malaga, Spain - The International Training Centre for Authorities and Leaders in Malaga (CIFAL Malaga) jointly with the University of Malaga convened the workshop on “Politics and sociology in the Mediterranean countries” with special emphasis on secular conflicts.

“Reducing all forms of violence and working with governments and communities to find lasting solutions to conflict and security” is part of the 2030 Agenda. Sustainable Development Goal #16 on peace, justice and strong institutions aims to prevent violence and insecurity as they have a considerable impact on a country’s development, affecting not only economic growth but also people’s welfare.

This workshop gathered researchers with background on modern history in order to bring academic rigor and to promote cutting-edge solutions on the issues coped by Mediterranean societies on politics and secular matters.

Professor of Modern History at University of Malaga, Mr. Juan Bravo, highlighted that this workshop was useful in order to “find best methodologies to research and to analyze potential solutions faced by Mediterranean countries”. Similarly, Mrs. Zaida Diaz, director of the Research Department at the University of Malaga, stated that this workshop is a platform to produce and share valuable knowledge to promote development throughout the Mediterranean area.

The historic relationship between Malaga and Maghreb and the Great Siege of Gibraltar were some of the topics discussed during the workshop.
