Curitiba, Brazil, 13 June 2016 - In partnership with the Federation of Industries of the State of Parana (Brazil), the United Nations Global Compact and the United Nations Development Programme, the Curitiba International Training Center affiliated to UNITAR – CIFAL Curitiba – hosted a seminar on the industrial sector engagement with the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development in Brazil.
80 participants, representing companies signatories of the UN Global Compact, took part in the event, which main objective was to allow for a reflection within the private sector on the opportunities and challenges of the recently adopted Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and consider strategies for Parana business sector to tangibly contribute to achieving the SDGs through the adoption of redesigned policies and practices. More specifically, participants shared experience and best practices on opportunities to increase productivity and competitiveness while contributing to the achievement of the SDGs.
In a ceremony following the event, Mr. Alex Mejia, Senior Manager at UNITAR, presented the United Nations flag to the the City of Curitiba. UNITAR, the municipality of Curitiba and the Federation of Industries of the State of Parana have been partners for close to a decade, to offer training opportunities aimed at building capacities of key decision-makers from public, private and third sector parties to address key dimensions of sustainable development and plan and design cities in a sustainable way.
