As president of the managing committee of the International Training Center for Local Actors in Curitiba (CIFAL Curitiba) and president of the Paraná State Industry Federation, Rodrigo da Rocha Loures congratulated Itaipu Binacional’s president, Jorge Samek, for receiving the Americas Award 2011, which highlights public initiatives and officials that contribute for economic and social development in the Americas.
Itaipu won the award in the Environmental Sustainability category for its Cultivando Água Boa (cultivating good water) programme. Binacional organizes and promotes more than 60 different projects in partnership with social movements, research and learning institutions, and the riverside population of Itaipu River, with the objective of sharing the care of the environment and of human beings.
Itaipu programmes’ positive results when it comes to protecting and preserving the environment and reducing pollution caught the jury’s eye for their admirable approach and integrated water management.
