CIFAL Argentina hosts the Latin American Meeting on Cognitive Impairment
18 September 2018, Buenos Aires, Argentina - The International Training Centre for Authorities and Leaders in Argentina (CIFAL Argentina) in collaboration with the National Scientific and Technical Research Council Program and Borda Hospital hosted the “7th Latin American Meeting on Cognitive Impairment”.
Ensuring healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages is at the core of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs)- like dementia and diabetes- are included in the target 3.4 of the Sustainable Development Goals, which reads: “By 2030 reduce by one third premature mortality from Non Communicable Diseases”.
It is estimated by the Alzheimer’s Disease International federation that by 2050, 68% of all people with dementia will live in Low and Middle income countries, and by 2030 NCDs will be the leading cause of global disability. Furthermore, the Pan American Health Organization estimated that over the next 20 years, NCDs will cost more than $30 trillion of the global Gross Domestic Product, which not only impacts global economic growth, but also affects productivity and people’s quality of life.
The “7th Latin American Meeting on Cognitive Impairment” gathered 138 students and professionals that attended diverse workshops in the following areas: physical activity and cognitive deterioration, diet and cognitive impairment, genetic of dementia, rapidly progressive dementia, diabetes and cognitive impairment, among other topics. Attendees expressed a rate of 90% of satisfaction with this event.
The Latin American Meeting also served as a venue where specialized courses took place. For instance, the “Neuroplasticity, Synapse, Depression and Cognitive Impairment” course brought together 134 professionals from diverse backgrounds to discuss topics related to: cognitive deterioration, depression, and its prevention. Attendees expressed a rate of 98% of satisfaction with this course.
