21 March 2013, Beijing, People's Republic of China — The final review workshop for the project on the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) was held on 21 March 2013 in Beijing. The workshop brought together 17 participants from government, industry, civil society, and academia representing the sectors related to the GHS, as well as two resource persons from UNITAR.
The draft National GHS Implementation Strategy, as a key project document, was presented for discussion. This was followed by discussions on planning and developing action plans for follow-up activities. Further development of the GHS-related legal system and developing the list of classified chemicals in China were prioritized as the next steps for China to further implement the GHS nation wide. After the draft National GHS Implementation Strategyis revised based on the comments made by the participants, the document will be submitted to the State Council of China for final approval. Moreover, the workshop included presentation of sample awareness raising brochure related to GHS for relevant government officials at both state and provincial levels.
As a part of the project “Training and Capacity Building for the Implementation of the Globally Harmonised System of Classification and Labelling (GHS) in the People’s Republic of China”, the final workshop was hosted by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology(MIIT) of People's Republic of China with technical support provided by UNITAR, and financial support provided by the European Union (EU).
