4-6 May 2011, Estoril, Portugal - This year’s Estoril debate that traditionally convenes global thinkers to discuss globalization challenges took place on 4-6 May 2011.
Among the prominent scholars, public figures, activists and policy-makers featured in the four panels of the 2011 Estoril debate were Mohamed ElBaradei, Dominique de Villepin, Larry King, Francis Fukuyama, Nouriel Roubini, Jean-Marie Guéhenno, and many others.
Carlos Lopes was invited this year to join the 1st Panel that focused on the issues of the Architecture of Global Governance, and more specifically such as reform of the international institutions; the role of new actors on the international scene; and multilevel international cooperation.
The uniqueness of the Estoril conferences that aim to examine the complex interplay between the local and the global dimensions lies in its innovating, “problem-solving”, approach, based on the assumption about the global nature of contemporary challenges and need for both, global and local, solutions.
