31 March 2023, Sihanoukville, Cambodia - On March 23 and 24 a successful Training of Trainers (ToT) on the Autosobriety Training Programme to Prevent Drink-Driving was conducted in the Sihanouk province of Cambodia.
This second ToT, taking place at the Kampong Som High School brought together 22 core trainers from the Provincial Red Cross volunteers, school teachers and leaders of youth’s clubs from the province. The two-day event was hosted by CAMSAFE and UNITAR with the support of Pernod Ricard Cambodge and the participation of the Preah Sihanouk Province.
The ToT was designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the current road safety situation in the country, the dangers of drinking and driving, the ways in which they can prevent it, but also, information about the various legal implications of drinking and driving in the country.
The session walked the participants through a detailed presentation of the four modules pertaining to the Ausotobriety Training Programme. CAMSAFE representatives presented the first two modules with an emphasis on the current and past situation of the road traffic fatalities and crashes in Cambodia, and the impact of alcohol on the body, supported by the Virtual Reality video displayed to experience the effect of alcohol on driving performances. The third module pertaining to the current legislation in place in Cambodia was presented by members of the Provincial Police Commissariat of Preah Sihanouk. The event ended with a training activity that focused on group discussions about the best teaching practices on the impact of drinking and driving and how to avoid it.
By the end of the event, the trained trainers had acquired a comprehensive understanding of the Autosobriety Training Programme to Prevent Drink Driving. They were equipped with the knowledge and skills to develop and roll out training plans in their respective communities, which will be taking place during April 2023.
