Background

UNITAR’s Green Development and Climate Change Programme Unit (GCP) develops the capacities of individuals and training institutions in developing countries to implement the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and to advance green and climate resilient development. It offers a range of services, including executive training, institutional capacity development, support for national learning strategies, learning methodology development, and knowledge-sharing. Activities are carried out through partnerships with other UN organizations, bilateral development partners, as well as leading learning institutions and think tanks. The Programme also hosts the Secretariat for UN CC:Learn, the One UN Climate Change Learning Partnership (www.uncclearn.org) and is a member of the Partnership for Action on Green Economy (PAGE) (www.un-page.org).

Accountabilities

The Training Associate will support the design and development of learning products and contribute to increasing the effectiveness of the Programme Unit’s outreach and communication efforts, through audio-video production and graphic design. In addition, the Training Associate will contribute to driving technological innovation at the Programme Unit.

Under the supervision of the Manager, Green Development and Climate Change Programme Unit (GCP), the incumbent will:

  1. Support the design and development of innovative, use-friendly, and effective learning products

    • Support the design of visually appealing, user-friendly and effective learning courses.
    • Lead the conceptualization and development of audio-video learning activities, such as (but not limited to) lectures, podcasts, interactive videos, games, trailers, and teasers.
    • Provide effective guidance to team members and partners during the course production process, including by streamlining and standardizing the development and review process for training materials.   
    • Create functional and visually appealing visual identities of learning products that enables and stimulate adult learning.
    • Assist project officers in evaluating the user-friendliness of existing learning products and support course updates and revisions.
  1. Provide graphic design and communication support with the goal of increasing outreach and effectiveness of to Programme activities.

    • Support the development of informational materials for internal and external use, such as reports, brochures, infographics.
    • Create promotional materials that showcase GCP projects and results.
    • Conceptualize communication strategies for GCP projects, initiatives, and products.
    • Create standard processes, concepts, and templates to improve the unit’s processes around graphic design and communication.
    • Advise and train team members on design and communication issues.
  1. Support technological innovation at the Programme Unit

    • Identify and explore opportunities for technological innovation to support the Programme Unit’s goals.
    • Support the implementation, uptake and maintenance of new technical solutions aimed at increasing learning effectiveness, accessibility, and/or outreach (such as: live streaming, m-learning, new authoring software, AI tools, use of data, social-media targeting and more).
    • Introduce opportunities for technological innovation to the team and train team members on new tools.

  • Technology awareness – Aware of and able to use available specialised software for video and audio production and graphic design; able to understand and assess the usefulness of new software and applications, including for website’s management and administration; takes interest in mastering new technologies and acquiring new skills.
  • Teamwork – Works collaboratively with others on the design and development of complex learning and knowledge products; able to support multiple constituencies and to establish and maintain effective working relations in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic environment guided by organizational goals.
Minimum requirements

Education/Experience:

  • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in a field relevant to environment, politics, economics or social sciences.
  • Minimum 4 years of professional experience, with proven experience in the area of graphic design and video-audio production.
  • Sound experience in technologies for e-learning and internet-enables communication and learning tools.
  • Experience of working in multi-cultural teams
  • Working experience in course design and implementation is highly desirable.

 

Language:

Fluency in both written and spoken English. Working knowledge of French language is desirable.
