Programme Description:

General Objectives of the Contract:

The objective is to support the collection, verification, and input of data into the United Nations System-wide Action Plan (UN-SWAP) platform. Under the guidance and supervision of Gender Focal Points, the trainee will be responsible for accurately coordinating and inputting data related to gender equality and women’s empowerment within the UN system. This role requires close collaboration with the gender focal points to ensure all data submissions are complete, accurate, and aligned with the UN-SWAP framework, thereby contributing to the accountability and monitoring of gender mainstreaming efforts across the organization.

Responsibilities/Description of Professional Services:

The trainee will provide support though the following activities:

  • Collect and organize relevant data for input into the UN-SWAP platform, ensuring data accuracy and completeness.
  • Input and update data in the UN-SWAP platform, adhering to established guidelines and timelines. 
  • Collaborate closely with gender focal points to ensure data alignment with UN-SWAP standards and requirements. 
  • Prepare and present the revised data report to the gender focal points for review and approval. 
  • Coordinate responses to feedback provided by the UN Women team, incorporating necessary revisions and ensuring compliance with feedback directives. 
  • Maintain clear communication with the gender focal points and UN Women team, providing regular updates on data collection and reporting progress. 
  • Support other related tasks as requested by the gender focal points, contributing to the successful implementation of gender mainstreaming objectives within the organization
Learning Objectives:

Throughout the course of this contract, the trainee will gain hands-on experience in data collection, analysis, and input processes within the context of UN-SWAP, thereby developing a practical understanding of gender mainstreaming within the UN system. The trainee will enhance their skills in data accuracy, report preparation, and collaborative coordination with key stakeholders, particularly in responding to feedback and ensuring data integrity. Additionally, the trainee will gain valuable insights into the processes and standards associated with UN accountability frameworks for gender equality, equipping them with the competencies needed to contribute to future gender-focused initiatives within international organizations.

Minimum requirements

Education: Applicants must be enrolled in an undergraduate/graduate/postgraduate degree within (Gender Studies, Social Sciences, International Relations, Data Science, or a related field) or be a recent graduate of the aforementioned (if selected, they must commence the traineeship within two years of graduation).

Experience: Prior experience in data collection, data entry, or data analysis (such as through internships, volunteer work, or coursework) is preferred. Experience in gender-focused projects, research, or related initiatives is an asset. Familiarity with the United Nations System or other international organizations is desirable.

Additional desirable competencies: Strong attention to detail and accuracy, particularly in data processing and reporting. Ability to work independently while coordinating effectively with team members. Proficiency in using data entry and spreadsheet software, particularly Microsoft Excel or similar programs. Good organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and adapt to feedback.

Language Requirement: Fluency in oral and written English language is mandatory; working level of other UN languages is an asset.

Other: Knowledge of basic gender and inclusivity concepts; excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite) are required.
