As a contribution to this end, the Saudi Human Rights Commission, UNITAR and Majmaah University, developed and implemented the Expert in Human Rights Programme in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
10 February 2026, Hiroshima, Japan - Andre Magpantay is a university instructor of art studies from the Philippines, whose work focuses on art and ecology and on how art engages with memory. In 2025, he joined the UNITAR programme SDGs and Digital Futures: Changemaking Through AI and Digital Storytelling, where he explored how digital tools could be used to capture memories and tell stories that help people recover, prevent future disasters and foster peace.

09 February 2026, Geneva, Switzerland - The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) have formalized a strategic partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on 16 January 2026 at UNITAR Headquarters in Geneva. The agreement was signed by Ms Michelle Gyles-McDonnough, Assistant Secretary-General and Executive Director of UNITAR, and Ms Anacláudia Rossbach, Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN-Habitat.

UNITAR successfully delivered the inaugural public edition of its Executive Diploma in Sports Diplomacy in Geneva from 26 to 30 January 2026. Bringing together participants from over 10 countries, the programme explored how sport can serve as a platform for diplomacy, peacebuilding and sustainable development. Through expert-led workshops, high-level discussions and on-site visits, participants gained practical tools to leverage sport as an instrument of international cooperation.

03 February 2026, Majmaah, Saudi Arabia - From 22 to 27 November 2025, Majmaah University, in partnership with CIFAL Saudi Arabia, hosted the Co-Creation Workshop of the UNITAR–UNESCO LEAP-FAST (Leaders in Higher Education Alliance and Programme for Accelerating Sustainability Transformations) Certificate Programme, bringing together universities and sustainability experts from across regions for six days of collaboration, reflection, and collective transformation of higher education.
