The e-learning courses on risk analysis aim to equip participants with a deep understanding and practical skills in applying a risk-sensitive approach within the Humanitarian Programme Cycle and the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework processes. Participants who take the course will be able to define risk analysis concepts, assess various risk types, and evaluate strategies for strategic risk reduction planning. By identifying key actors and implementing crucial risk analysis methodologies, participants will be able to design tailored strategies and programs to effectively mitigate disaster risks, considering diverse stakeholder perspectives and local contexts.

The risk analysis courses are of exclusive use of UNDRR and offered to a broad audience that may include:

  • UN Resident Coordinators.
  • High-level government officials.
  • Humanitarian Country Teams and New Humanitarian Country Teams.
  • United Nations Country Teams.
  • Professionals with minimal knowledge of risk analysis, amongst others.

At the end of the courses participants will be able to:

  1. Define risk analysis concepts, approaches and theories, and explain their importance in reducing the likelihood or impact of disasters on communities.
  2. Analyse the different types of risks and consequences to assess the factors that can improve resilience.
  3. Evaluate the different approaches to disaster risk reduction to risk-informed strategic planning.
  4. Identify the key actors involved in risk analysis and disaster risk reduction and recognize roles and responsibilities.
  5. Implement different risk analysis methodologies and justify their importance for disaster risk reduction.
  6. Design effective disaster risk reduction strategies and programmes by applying risk analysis methodologies, while considering the needs and perspectives of diverse stakeholders and the local context
