UNITAR's Breastfeeding Education Initiative (BFEI) combines its experience in training and research to create adapted breastfeeding education wherever it's needed most. Regional Conference on Breastfeeding Education and Training of Trainers in Central America, Cuba and Dominican Republic, SAN SALVADOR, EL SALVADOR, JULY 18-19, 2024
These events, of a Conference and a Training of Trainers (ToT), contributed to Breastfeeding Education Initiative (BFEI) targets as listed below.
This conference consisted of a one-day event titled, “Regional Conference on Breastfeeding Education and Training of Trainers (ToT) Workshop.” The conference brought together participants to:
- Foster the exchange of knowledge and best practices in breastfeeding through training and education, aiming to improve breastfeeding initiation and duration rates across the region.
- Communicate the importance of breastfeeding to healthcare professionals, mothers, caregivers, and partners.
- Provide practical tools to support breastfeeding mothers in various settings, including at home, in healthcare facilities, in the workplace, and within the community.
This project consisted of a one-day Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop titled, “The Magic Drop: Supporting mothers along the journey in Central America, Cuba & Dominican Republic). This ToT sought to equip participants with the necessary skills to:
- Understand the scientific basis of breastfeeding.
- To describe the impact of breast milk and breastfeeding on maternal and child health.
- Understand the major structural and individual challenges women face in initiating and continuing breastfeeding.
TRAINING OF TRAINERS (ToT) DAKAR, SENEGAL, MARCH 15-16, 2023
This Training of Trainers (ToT) event consisted of a two-day workshop titled, “Improving Breastfeeding Education in Sub-Saharan Africa.” This ToT aimed to develop confident, competent trainers with the skills to plan, conduct, and evaluate training in breastfeeding education.
At the end of the ToT, the participants were able to:
- Understand the science behind breastfeeding.
- Describe the impact of breastmilk and breastfeeding on the health of mothers and infants.
- Understand the main structural and individual challenges facing women regarding initiating and continuing breastfeeding.
