Strengthening competencies for a more humane and future-ready justice ecosystem

RESIZE is a European initiative supporting the development of competence-based training pathways for professionals and practitioners working across detention, community sanctions, rehabilitation, education, health and reintegration.

The project contributes to a more inclusive and skills-driven justice ecosystem across Europe.

Why this matters

Professionals working in and around detention environments play a critical role in safety, well-being and reintegration. Yet training standards, competence frameworks and recognition systems vary significantly across countries and sectors.

RESIZE addresses this by:

  • Developing shared European competencies
  • Supporting recognition of prior learning
  • Creating stackable micro-credentials
  • Strengthening collaboration between institutions and training providers

The aim is to ensure high-quality, portable and future-oriented learning opportunities across the sector.

What resize will deliver

  • European Competence Framework – a structured set of shared competencies
  • Vocational Core Profiles – multidisciplinary role descriptions
  • Micro-credential Catalogue – modular learning opportunities aligned with European standards
  • Recognition of Prior Learning tools – mechanisms to validate existing skills
  • Regional Competence Partnerships – collaboration platforms linking public authorities, training providers and civil society

Who is this for

RESIZE is relevant to:

  • Justice and community safety professionals
  • Educators and vocational training providers
  • Healthcare and mental health professionals
  • Social workers and employment services
  • Civil society organisations
  • Policy-makers and labour market actors

The project promotes person-first language and approaches grounded in dignity and inclusion.
