As far as he can remember, Algerian born Noureddine Benaidja always expressed interest for a position in the public sector, not a surprise as both his parents pursued their careers working for the government. After four years at Alger's Ecole Nationale d'Administration (ENA), he started to work for the Interior Ministry since 2001. He then studied law, both in Algeria and in France. Born in Togo, 39 years old Bontiébite Badjare was trained as an agricultural engineer at Lomé's university in 2004, following the example of his older brother. He first obtained a position as an assistant at the International Center for Soil Fertility. A few years later, he worked for the Togolese Agricultural Research Institute, before he resigned to become an independent consultant, working among others for the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. UNITAR organizes training in the form of workshops, seminars and fellowships where participants, mostly professionals from developing countries, learn from each other and share their experiences and the common issues they are facing. This can be done through face-to-face events as well as online courses.
When Mr.Imtiaz Sharifi participated in the UNITAR Executive Master’s in Development Policies and Practices in 2014, he was the Director of the Value-Added Tax Section of the Revenue General Department in the Ministry of Finance of Afghanistan, who had been working to develop policies and practices for the Ministry.
Following the success of the first edition of the Masters programem in 2013, UNITAR received many applications for the second edition, Mr. Sharifi was one of the 17 high-level officials from Afghan Government chosen to participate in degree programme.

UNITAR conducts its activities all over the world. Depending on the type of event, training activities can be organized in-country at strategic locations or through e-learning sessions. Many activities conducted under the Social Development Programme are organized through the CIFAL Global network, a network of affiliated training centres.
UNITAR courses don’t just provide information — they help individuals develop ideas and solutions to the problems they face. They help individuals cultivate sustainable solutions. Mamunur Rahman is one of these individuals.
His project, Ella Pad, started as a proposal for his Sustainable Consumption and Production e-course. Now, his plan to make sanitary napkins from garment scraps has moved beyond UNITAR’s online classrooms to MIT D-Lab and actual Bangladeshi garment factories.

On 11 – 13 June 2025, UNITAR supported a workshop, “Harnessing Administrative Data Sources for Official Statistics Production: Migration and Environment/Climate Change statistics cases” in Grenada, implemented by Grenada’s Central Statistical Office (CSO).
