The Government of Edo State Nigeria and UNITAR organized a knowledge sharing workshop on climate change in the Niger Delta Region to enhance capacity and knowledge about the effects of climate change and promote actions to mitigate these effects. 27 July, Geneva, Switzerland – UNOSAT and the partners of the GEO-PICTURES project activated their on-line geo-tagging capacity to test the operational capacity of the system in the aftermath of the blast at a munitions dump in southern Cyprus. The blast that killed at least 12 people also caused important damage to the island's largest power station causing widespread power cuts.
The pictures collected at the damaged site were uploaded in real time on the web interface realised by UNOSAT together with satellite imagery of the location before and after the incident.

Extended drought is causing a severe food crisis in the Horn of Africa with parts of Somalia so severely affected that no less than 100,000 people are moving within Somalia and towards neighbouring Kenya and Ethiopia in search of emergency assistance. According to OCHA reports over 11 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance in the Horn of Africa. The famine is expected to spread across all regions in southern Somalia soon unless urgent measures are put in place.
