UNOSAT is increasingly active in both crowdsourcing and geo-tagging. To expand its experience in the latter, UNOSAT is working in partnership with the Citizen Cyberscience Centre to test an experimental geo-tagging system called Gloe, developed by HP Labs, a sponsor of the CCC project. The intention is to verify the usability of Gloe in support of development work and humanitarian aid in the field. UNOSAT has long embraced public engagement to improve satellite applications and mapping technology. Already in 2006, UNOSAT, CERN and the University of Geneva joined hands to explore the potential of participatory mapping using CERN’s experiences on collaborative computing and collaborative thinking in particle physics. In July 2006 the first crowdsourcing experiment goes public. Building on these efforts the three partners joined by Berkley University and other scientific and technology partners and sponsors created the Citizen Cyberscience Centre (CCC).

UNITAR and the Geneva-based LALIVE law firm conducted a new e-learning course on “Introduction to Investment Arbitration” from March 14 to April 15, 2011. Twenty-one lawyers, officials and professionals mostly from developing countries and transition economies participated in this executive-level course which aimed at enabling participants to analyze key issues related to investment arbitration, and to apply the principles discussed to future situations.
