4 March 2021, Geneva, Switzerland - International Law is the cornerstone of global interaction, politics, and policy. Emerging challenges and opportunities driven by advanced technologies, as well as new actors are shaping international relations in a broad range of domains, including maritime regulations, international security, and outer space activities. The International law in Focus e-Workshop Series aims at tackling cutting-edge legal topics in specific areas of international law. Each e-workshop will offer insights on harmonious ways to integrate the constant developments of the law.

The upcoming e-workshops will focus on international humanitarian law and cyberwarfare (6th April – 8th April) and space law (14th – 16th April). The series will provide deeper understanding of particular fields of international law and raise awareness on the new trends influencing them.

Learning Objectives

UNITAR

At the end of the International Humanitarian Law and Cyberwarfare sessions, participants should be able to:

  • Describe the main rules of international humanitarian law and differentiate between those which apply to the cyberspace and the others;
  • Apply the main rules governing international humanitarian law to cyber-warfare;
  • Explain the link between Human rights and the cyber realm.

 

At the end of the Space Law sessions, participants should be able to:

  • Identify and analyse the legal framework regulating space activities;
  • Identify the main legal issues related to the application of space law;
  • Describe the main challenges related to space security.
