17 January 2014, Geneva, Switzerland - UNOSAT released fresh analysis illustrating how people are fleeing violence in urban areas in South Sudan to seek refuge at UN bases nearby. In one of the analyses, UNOSAT experts have documented the growth of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the Rubkona base of the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS).

13 December 2013, Libreville, Gabon – UNITAR attended the Final Review Workshop held in Libreville on 13 December 2013. The main objectives of the workshop were to review the final outcomes of the national project for the implementation of the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) and to discuss next steps to continue promoting chemicals safety in the country. The workshop was attended by some 75 representatives of government, industry, non-governmental organisations, as well as a UNITAR resource person.

In addition, over 230,000 refugees who have fled to neighbouring countries to avoid the violence.
