29 August 2019 Yokohama, Japan - TICAD7 official side-event panel discussion, Building Bridges for Peace in South Sudan, has successfully concluded in Yokohoma last Thursday. H.E. James Wani Igga, Vice President of South Sudan also joined the panel along with Hon. Onyoti Adigo Nyikwec, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security of South Sudan. Mr. Nihkil Seth, Executive Director of UNITAR, moderated the session. The discussion examined the peace-building efforts in South Sudan and emphasized the importance of promoting the national capacity for post-conflict reconstruction in tandem with the implementation of the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (R-ARCSS). The panelists emphasized the significance to engage in youth and invest in the development of sustainable peace and prosperity in South Sudan.
2 July 2019, Geneva, Switzerland - The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) have successfully delivered a joint online course on Agriculture in International Trade Agreements in Russian for the eleven countries of Europe and Central Asia, also known as the post-Soviet countries, namely Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.
In the summer of 2019, the United Nations Institute for Training and Research New York Office (UNITAR NYO), International Action Network on Small Arms (IANSA), and United Nations Trust Facility Supporting Cooperation on Arms Regulation (UNSCAR) collaboratively published a “Quick Guide” to understanding the United Nations Secretary-General’s agenda for disarmament. In May 2018, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres published an 87-page disarmament agenda called “Securing Our Common Future: An Agenda for Disarmament,” in which he calls for a new method of disarmament to bring about global peace and security.

29 April 2019, Geneva, Switzerland – The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and the Arab Gulf Program for Development’s (AGFUND) are partnering to promote financial inclusion through training activities across Africa, assisting ongoing programs, and supporting microfinance banks throughout the Middle East. Additionally, they will join forces to host the 8th AGFUND Development Forum on the 8th of October 2019, at the Palais des Nations.

22 January 2019, Geneva, Switzerland – University students from China visited the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland, to participate in a seminar on the Role of Youth in Achieving Sustainable Development Goals. During the workshop, co-organized by UNITAR and Association des Étudiant-e-s Sinophones de l'Université de Genève (AESG) and held at the Azerbaijani room at UNOG, the students were introduced to the SDGs and their importance. The purpose of the session was to encourage and inspire these young individuals to become future leaders who will support the mission of achieving the 2030 Agenda.
23 - 24 January 2019, Shanghai, People’s Republic of China – UNITAR, in collaboration with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP), and the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (SASS) successfully held the Learning Conference “Implementing the 2030 Agenda in the Asia-Pacific Region” in Shanghai, People’s Republic of China, on the 23rd and 24th of January 2019. The conference was attended by more than 95 participants, including government officials leading the SDGs process in their countries, diplomats, international civil servants as well as university professors. 23 countries were represented in this event, with many participants coming from Small Island Developing States (SIDS), thus, providing different perspectives and experiences regarding the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.
