20 May 2019, San Jose Costa Rica - UNITAR New York Office traveled to Costa Rica on the 20th-21st of May to implement a course on developing leadership and strengthening negotiation techniques to the diplomats of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Costa Rica.

17 May 2019, Geneva - A vital skill set indispensable to the work of diplomats and global actors is the ability to engage relevant stakeholders in effective negotiation processes needed to drive action and build consensus among parties. It is therefore important for them to prepare ahead and equip themselves with the relevant communication and interpersonal skills as well as understanding the various negotiation contexts that exist, identifying tensions and facilitating their peaceful resolution.

14 May 2019, New York, USA—The United Nations Institute for Training and Research New York Office (UNITAR NYO) in collaboration with Columbia Law School, hosted the last workshop in the four-part series on conflict resolution, mediation, and multilateral negotiation. This series was sponsored by the Government of Sweden under the programme “Leveling the Playing Field”.

08 May 2019, UNITAR New York Office, United States – The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), the Permanent Mission of Ecuador to the United Nations, the Division of Indigenous Peoples of the United Nations, Columbia University’s Institute for the Study of Human Rights (Indigenous Peoples Rights Program), the University of Kansas, and the Group of Friends of Indigenous Peoples (GoFIP) hosted the 2nd Orientation Workshop on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples at the UN Headquarters in New York as a part of the programme “Leveling The Playing Field” sponsored by the Permanent Mission of Sweden to the United Nations.

1 - 3 May 2019, New York, USA - The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) held a three-day training course on “Introduction to the work of the United Nations and Skills in Multilateral Diplomacy” for the Team Members of the Palestinian Delegation for their Chairmanship at the G77. The training was developed under the programme “Leveling The Playing Field” sponsored by the Permanent Mission of Sweden to the United Nations.

30 April 2019, Geneva, Switzerland – The Division for Multilateral Diplomacy (DMD) of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) in collaboration with the Kuwait Anti-Corruption Authority (NAZAHA) successfully hosted a 4-day workshop on Leadership and Anti-Corruption in Kuwait City, from 24th to 27th of March 2019.

22 April 2019, UNITAR New York Office, USA – The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) New York Office hosted a workshop with the Maryland-based organization Trees for the Future on the topic of diversifying nutrition and income sources. This was the final workshop of the three-part series on Using Agroforestry to Meet Sustainable Development Goals sponsored by the Permanent Mission of Sweden’s programme “Leveling the Playing Field”.

26 April 2019, New York, USA - The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) New York Office hosted the Graduation Ceremony for the first class of its inaugural UNITAR Global Diplomacy Initiative (GDI), a programme dedicated to providing a unique, intimate training experience to students in higher education while utilizing the connections and experience of UN delegates and academics.

24 - 26 April 2019, Nairobi, Kenya – In the framework of the three years Memorandum of Understanding signed between UNITAR and the Kenyan Foreign Service Academy, UNITAR’s Division for Multilateral Diplomacy implemented a three-day training workshop on Conference Diplomacy and Multilateral Negotiations at the United Nations Office at Nairobi (UNON).
