From the 29th to 31th of March, Carlos Lopes, Executive Director of UNITAR, visited the Republic of Korea for a series of meetings to enhance cooperation with Korean institutions.
Jeju Special Self-Governing Province has been designated as the Island of World Peace by the government of Republic of Korea on 27 January 2005, and promotes Jeju as a place to discuss world peace through summit meetings and international conferences in efforts to make significant contribution to world peace and enhancement of stability on the Korean Peninsula.

The World Urban Forum (WUF) was established by the United Nations to examine one of the most pressing problems facing the world today: rapid urbanization and its impact on communities, cities, economies, climate change and policies. The theme of the 5th World Urban Forum in 2010 is “The Right to the City: Bridging the Urban Divide.” The event attracted some 13,700 participants from 150 countries around the world.
UNITAR Operational Satellite Applications Programme was invited to Washington DC in early March to discuss experiences and new ideas in the area of geospatial information production and operational integration of geographic information solutions at this important event organised by the US Government and the US Geospatial Intelligence Foundation (USGIF) and sponsored by major private satellite firms.
