22 March 2023, New York, USA – Between 22-24 March 2023, The UN 2023 Water Conference reconvenes after nearly 50 years since the 1977 UN Water Conference. The Conference serves as an opportunity for Member States, UN entities, and stakeholders to share commitments that aim to contribute to the implementation of water-related SDGs and associated targets. These voluntary commitments will be collected in the Water Action Agenda to accelerate progress in the second half of the Water Action Decade 2018-2028 and the second half of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

22 March 2023, New York, USA - UNITAR, York University, the Regional Municipality of York (York Region) and York Regional Police renewed its partnership agreement to foster sustainable development in Canada. This agreement aims to deliver joint training and professional development activities, which target – mainly – government officials, leaders, civil society and other interested parties in the areas of safety mobility including road safety, mental health, gender equality, entrepreneurship and economic growth, and climate change, amongst others.

21 March 2023, Geneva, Switzerland - UNITAR’s network of affiliated training centres CIFAL Global Network (CGN) serve as hubs for the exchange of knowledge on development-related topics including water-related issues. The impact and scope of the CGN capture a wide range of stakeholders, with special emphasis on local authorities and civil society leaders, offering cutting-edge learning and training to close to 90,000 beneficiaries per year.

25 April 2023, Hiroshima, Japan - Olga Devic is a translator who is passionate about the intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and human rights. She joined a team of young women to translate a course on AI and human rights into Serbian. The course “Defending Human Rights in the Age of Artificial Intelligence“ was created by UNITAR and UNESCO in English with original translations in French, Spanish, Russian, and Chinese. Recently, with the support of the SALTO Participation & Information Resource Centre (SALTO PI), youth translators have volunteered on bringing the course into 20 additional languages.

25 April 2023, Hiroshima, Japan - Yerdaulet Rakhmatulla, a Kazakhstani student, recently completed the challenging task of translating the comprehensive course “Defending Human Rights in the Age of Artificial Intelligence”. The course was created by UNITAR and UNESCO, with translation coordination by SALTO Participation & Information Resource Centre (SALTO PI).

25 April 2023, Hiroshima, Japan - Meet translator Enes Karaibrahimoglu who has an interest in technology and a heart for helping others. When he heard about the opportunity to translate the course “Defending Human Rights in the Age of Artificial Intelligence” from a friend, he jumped at the chance to get involved. The course was created by UNITAR and UNESCO, while SALTO Participation & Information Resource Centre (SALTO PI) took the lead in coordinating translation efforts.

20 March 2023, New York, USA – The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), New York Office and its partner the Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea (DOALOS) of the Office of Legal Affairs of the United Nations successfully held the second briefing on the Introduction to the UN Fish Stocks Agreement and Sustainable Fisheries Processes at the United Nations, on Monday, 15 May 2023. The workshop was held in the United Nations Headquarters and was facilitated by Mr Dmitry Gonchar, Mr Buba Bojang, Mr Bart Smit Duijzentkunst, Mr Michele Ameri, and Ms Amber Maggio.

20 March 2023, New York, USA – The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), New York Office and its trusted partner, Columbia Law School hosted their “Antiracism in Peace-Building and Conflict Resolution” workshop on Monday, 20 March 2023. The workshop was the first of three sessions of the Spring 2023 Columbia Law School Mediation Clinic training series, it was developed in a hybrid manner and attended by more than 120 participants.
