MoU with Capacity for Afghanistan

27 April 2021, Kabul, Afghanistan / Hiroshima, Japan – UNITAR is pleased to announce that its Division for Prosperity and Capacity for Afghanistan (C4A), the country’s first official think tank, launched the new partnership designed to facilitate the development of joint training programmes that will support the country’s peacebuilding and professional development efforts. On 22 April 2021, the signing ceremony was held in Kabul.

Under the agreement, the two organizations will jointly raise funds and implement the trainings, which  will also have a particular focus on marginalized people, as well as capture key lessons learned to be  widely shared among practitioners across the country. In addition to peace-building, the programmes will leverage UNITAR’s strengths in the areas of human resources and institutional capacity  development; entrepreneurship and the private sector; innovative leadership; gender equality and  women’s empowerment; trade and finance; and anti-corruption and financial crimes.

Today was a historic day as C4A successfully signed a memorandum of understanding with UNITAR. It will provide all contributing members the opportunity to enhance their profiles, benefit from  capacity-building and from a huge pool of UNITAR alumni,

said Director of C4A. "C4A and UNITAR will jointly work to improve lives, coherence in societies, and institutional  accountability, and promote peace. [We will] provide evidence-based research solutions and  recommendations to public-policy problems to promote effective service delivery, responsible government, inclusive and accountable decision-making in institutions, and equitable civic  participation and voice."

We are excited to collaborate with C4A, an Afghan think tank with over 1,500 Afghan professionals, including more than 240 female experts,

said Ms. Mihoko Kumamoto, Director of UNITAR Division for Prosperity and Head of UNITAR Hiroshima Office, which has implemented various programmes for capacity development of young leaders in Afghanistan since its inauguration in 2003. “We are excited  to join forces with these Afghan experts to offer locally tailored learning solutions for the people of  Afghanistan.”
