21 July 2023, Hiroshima, Japan – On DATE, UNITAR Hiroshima Office celebrated the publication of The UNITAR Hiroshima Fellowship for Afghanistan: An Anthology with a book launch and roundtable event. The event was part of the Hiroshima Office’s 20th-anniversary celebrations.
14 July 2023, Hiroshima, Japan – UNITAR welcomes the reappointment of renowned Japanese athlete Mr Dai Tamesue as UNITAR Goodwill Ambassador, effective 1 July 2023. This marks the third year of Mr Tamesue’s partnership with UNITAR. The reappointment was announced during the UNITAR anniversary celebration in Hiroshima on 30 June 2023.
14 July 2023, Hiroshima, Japan – On 1 July 2023, UNITAR Hiroshima Office held a public forum “Empowering Changemakers – A Force towards Sustainable Futures” at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum. Over 100 guests joined to discuss youth empowerment.
14 July 2023, Hiroshima, Japan - UNITAR launched Gender Equality and Women Empowerment III (GEWE III), the third phase of its programme to build leadership and gender-responsive capacities of government officials. GEWE III, offered in Arabic, was launched online on 11 July 2023.
7 July 2023, Shanghai, China – On 24 June 2023, UNITAR and JICUITANG (Shanghai) Information Technology signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) and letter of agreement to collaborate on micro, small and medium-sized enterprise (MSME) development in support of the Sustainable Development Goals. The two organizations will develop training courses on MSME development and risk management. UNITAR Division for Prosperity Director Ms. Mihoko Kumamoto and JICUITANG Chairperson Mr. Feng Yuan signed on behalf of their organizations at the ceremony in Shanghai, China.
7 July 2023, Hiroshima, Japan - On 24 June, UNITAR and JICUITANG (Shanghai) Information Technology signed a memorandum of understanding to collaborate and a letter of agreement to develop training services in SME development, risk management, and SDGs development.
5 July 2023, Hiroshima, Japan – UNITAR is pleased to announce a new partnership with Princeton in Asia through which a Princeton in Asia intern will work at the UNITAR Hiroshima Office as a Leadership and Inclusion Trainee over the US summer. Princeton in Asia interns are generally undergraduate students. The partnership is similar to UNITAR’s ongoing partnership with the Oberlin Shansi Fellowship, where a fellow works at UNITAR for two years.
3 July 2023, Hiroshima, Japan – On 28 June 2023, UNITAR signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Pasona Group Incorporated (Pasona Group) to contribute to the digital upskilling of women and youth. UNITAR Executive Director Mr Nikhil Seth and Pasona Group CEO Mr Yasuyuki Nambu signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at a ceremony in Tokyo, at the headquarters of the Pasona Group. Over 100 guests attended to celebrate the special occasion. UNITAR and Pasona Group are discussing cooperation to design and conduct training programmes in 24 African countries and for Ukrainian refugees in Poland.
28 June 2023, Hiroshima, Japan – UNITAR Division for Prosperity calls on women entrepreneurs, business leaders and those running micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) from three Regional Economic Communities across sub-Saharan Africa to apply for the Advancing Gender Equality and Women Empowerment 2023 Entrepreneurship and Financial Literacy Training Programme. The programme is open to women in West, Central, and Southern Africa (ECOWAS, ECCAS and SADC ). The application deadline is 31 July 2023, midnight East Africa Time (UTC +3).
26 June 2023, Hiroshima, Japan - UNITAR Division for Prosperity invites entrepreneurs in Afghanistan to apply to the Great Ideas Space 2023 Programme for Afghanistan: Food Security and Job Creation through Entrepreneurship and Innovation. The programme will equip entrepreneurs with the skills needed to address issues such as food insecurity, unemployment, and social problems through innovative solutions.
