24 September 2026, Warsaw, Poland – The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), in close collaboration with the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) and supported by the FIA Foundation, held the second face-to-face workshop for the Central and Eastern Europe under the Safe Mobility for All and for Life (SM4A4L) initiative. The meeting, held on 22–23 September in Warsaw, marked the strategic transition from conceptual learning toward the formulation of concrete interventions on the ground. 

Building on the regional launch held in Budva, the workshop brought together delegations composed of automobile club representatives and government authorities from 10 countries and territories: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Czech Republic, Kosovo, Lithuania, North Macedonia, Moldova, Poland, Romania, and Slovenia. Throughout the sessions, national teams identified cross-sectoral synergies and outlined joint projects designed to address the most pressing road safety challenges in their communities. 

The opening day highlighted the value of local solutions and public-private partnerships in advancing toward Vision Zero. Through contributions from municipal government representatives such as the City of Płock and CIFAL Płock, alongside inputs from local police, civil society organizations, and the private sector, participants examined preventive models based on technology, coordinated enforcement, and European best practices supported by the European Road Safety Charter and the European Transport Safety Council. 

A central milestone of the Warsaw workshop was the formal launch of the SM4A4L Mentorship Programme, where international experts began providing direct support to the participating country teams. Through practical exercises and plenary feedback sessions, participants structured their preliminary intervention proposals, defining scope, impact targets, and inter-institutional coordination frameworks ahead of project implementation. 

About the Safe Mobility 4 All & 4 Life Initiative

The SM4A4L Programme constitutes a comprehensive training pathway structured through: 

• 56 training modules on a dedicated virtual learning platform. 
• Practical face-to-face workshops for project design. 
• A continuous technical mentorship programme. 
• Support for project development and implementation on the ground. 

In the coming months, national teams will continue refining their proposals alongside their assigned mentors in preparation for the effective implementation of their interventions and subsequent stages of the fellowship programme.
