CIFAL Quito and CIFAL Miami Host Conference Series in Ecuador

18 - 20 June 2018, Quito, Ecuador - UNITAR’s affiliated International Training Centre for Authorities and Leaders in Quito (CIFAL Quito) in collaboration with the Consortium of Autonomous Provincial Governments of Ecuador (CONGOPE) offered a series of Keynote Conferences by Steve Keen on "World Economy and Financial Crisis: Current Risks and Future Predictions".

The conferences took place in Quito in collaboration with FLACSO Ecuador, in Guayaquil with the support of the University of Guayaquil, with the partnership of the Technical University of Loja (UTPL) in Loja, and CIFAL Miami bringing together over 120 participants to each event.

Steve Keen is a progressive mathematician economist of renown, who offers a radical critique of the neoclassic interpretation of macroeconomics. He is considered one of the most outstanding figures in intuitive mathematical models. His focus is on the dynamics of current financial capitalism.

Edwin Miño, the Executive Director of CONGOPE and Director of CIFAL Quito, highlighted that the objective of these events was to provide adequate decision-making skills in national and local economic matters, directly from the training and experience of Steve Keen. "Because the world economy is constantly changing due to the macroeconomic factors that influence the development of different countries, and especially the developing countries, it is appropriate to analyze the case of our country.” He explains.

This was the first joint event between the newly inaugurated International Training Centre for Authorities and Leaders in Miami (CIFAL Miami) and the Technical University of Loja (UTPL).
