- UNITAR and ITS Education Asia invite Asia Pacific youth to apply for the “2024 Youth Ambassador Asia Pacific Programme”.
- The programme theme will be centred around creating local solutions for global challenges, empowering youth across the Asia Pacific region by developing their ability to address international issues and enhancing their knowledge of the SDGs.
- The training sessions will take place online over 8 Saturdays and culminate in a virtual graduation event.

1 July 2024, Hiroshima, Japan - UNITAR and ITS Education Asia invite motivated Asia Pacific youth to apply for the “2024 Youth Ambassador Asia Pacific Programme.” The programme will run for 8 weeks and focus on the theme “Local Solutions for Global Challenges: Youth Empowerment and Community Impact''. This training programme aims to deepen the youth's understanding of the SDGs, strengthen their entrepreneurship skills, and assist them in developing ideas to combat community problems. The training programme will end with final presentations from the youth of their self-directed capstone projects to implement these projects in their local communities to drive positive change. The application deadline is 11 October 2024 at 6 pm HKT. The programme is open to a maximum of 5 youth per country who are located in the Asia Pacific region for the duration of the training. It will occur online for 8 consecutive Saturdays, culminating in a final virtual graduation event.
The programme will be delivered in English, and participants will receive a UNITAR certificate of completion at the end of the programme. By the end of the programme, the participants will have a solid SDG-related project that they can then further develop in their local communities. The participants will receive mentorship from UNITAR and ITS staff and have the opportunity to conduct discussions with top experts and government officials.
Programme Timeline (all dates from 10 am to 1 pm HKT (UTC +8))
- October 12 (Sat.): Welcome, Introduction to the UN/SDGs
- October 19 (Sat.): Workshop on identifying issues in the SDGs context and creating the framework for solution
- October 26 (Sat.): Team Building 101 session
- November 2 (Sat.): Global issues in the context of SDGs session
- November 9 (Sat.): Expert discussion session
- November 16 (Sat.): Second SDG session and development of full pitch deck
- November 23 (Sat.): Tips on how to present and apply lessons learned from the programme back at school and beyond
- November 30 (Sat.): Graduation Day and Final Presentations on SDG projects
Eligibility and How to Apply
The programme is open to motivated Asia Pacific youth who match the following criteria:
- Good spoken English skills
- Committed to completing the programme
- Can commit approximately 3 hours for each programme session
- Experience in impactful local community work
- Good research ability and background knowledge of sustainability
- Passionate to succeed and make a lasting positive difference on their community
*A referee not related to the applicant is needed who can attest to the applicant's experiences and abilities regarding community work they have been involved in. Furthermore, the referee should be able to vouch for the applicant's general abilities concerning attendance, diligence, research ability, and knowledge of sustainability. This referee can be a school teacher or another appropriate figure with the qualifications previously outlined.
