The Online Diploma in Multilateral Diplomacy offers a unique opportunity for both students wanting to pursue a career in international relations, international and regional organizations staff, as well as governmental and non-governmental officers, to expand their knowledge on international affairs and strengthen their capacities in the field of multilateral diplomacy. Throughout history, speech has been one of the most powerful forms of communication. Technological, social, and economic changes have enhanced that power. To adapt to an intensification of digital communications, speechwriters must lend increasing effort to more authentic writing and delivery styles.
This online course provides participants with the essential principles of the art and craft of speechwriting. After defining the performative function of speeches, the course looks at the three golden principles of speechwriting, before moving on to how to make the content memorable and engaging. It then focuses on honing participants’ writing and editing skills with specific exercises to craft captivating media sound bites and quotes. Finally, it examines how to deliver a speech with confidence and conviction.
The course targets junior- to senior-level governmental officials, diplomats, and staff of intergovernmental and nongovernmental organizations. It additionally targets entry-level and mid-career private sector specialists, as well as post-graduate students.
At the end of the Art of Speechwriting course, participants should be able to:
• Identify the elements of a good speech as well as the 3 golden principles;
• Apply principles of effective writing;
• Manage the audience's attention span throughout the speech;
• Get your message across to the media and on social media;
• Master the principles of effective delivery and recognise the importance of non-verbal communication.
