29 – 31 May 2019, Geneva, Switzerland – The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) hosted a Collaborative Leadership Workshop at the Palais des Nations, which came to life during the course of three half-day sessions. The workshop is part of UNITAR’s Leadership Portfolio, and was facilitated by Mr. Alex Mejia, Director of the Division for People and Social Inclusion at UNITAR. The lead trainers of the workshop were three international field-experts who enabled valuable, in-depth training and guidelines.
After four remarkable editions, UNITAR is delighted to announce that applications for the 5th Edition of its Executive Diploma in Diplomatic Practice is now open.
This summer, UNITAR is delighted to deliver two 5-day field visits to Geneva. These will offer participants the chance to fully immerse themselves into the international hub of diplomacy and thereby gain first-hand experience of the United Nations.
24 May 2019 Geneva, Switzerland - Responding to the new international policy context, the One UN Climate Change Learning Partnership (UN CC:Learn) is supporting countries in addressing learning priorities relevant to their National Determined Contributions (NDCs) and National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) through the development and implementation of climate change learning strategies. UN CC:Learn is currently operating in 30 countries, either bilaterally or through regional programmes.
23 May 2019, Panama City, Panama - UNITAR New York Office continued developing skills for Central American diplomats, this time with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Panama from the 23rd-24th of May with a training for the development of leadership and strengthening negotiation techniques.

Engaging in outdoor activities while conducting negotiations has played a very important role in diplomacy and peace-making over the years. The informal atmosphere of such meetings allowed negotiators to discuss the issues more freely than in a formal setting, creating a unique space to explore shared interests.
20 May 2019, San Jose Costa Rica - UNITAR New York Office traveled to Costa Rica on the 20th-21st of May to implement a course on developing leadership and strengthening negotiation techniques to the diplomats of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Costa Rica.
17 May 2019, Geneva - A vital skill set indispensable to the work of diplomats and global actors is the ability to engage relevant stakeholders in effective negotiation processes needed to drive action and build consensus among parties. It is therefore important for them to prepare ahead and equip themselves with the relevant communication and interpersonal skills as well as understanding the various negotiation contexts that exist, identifying tensions and facilitating their peaceful resolution.
17 May 2019, Geneva, Switzerland – For a full week, between 01 and 07 May 2019, OHCHR and UNOSAT organized a training for members of Yemen’s National Committee to Investigate Alleged Violations of Human Rights (NCIAVHR) and representatives from the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR). This programme, which took place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, focused on the use of geospatial tools to investigate alleged violations of International Humanitarian Law.

This series was sponsored by the Government of Sweden under the programme “Leveling the Playing Field”.
