The UN International Law and Policy Immersion Programme
UNITAR is delighted to deliver a new edition of its field visit to Geneva for students from Newcastle University. The United Nations International Law and Policy Immersion Programme offers participants the opportunity to immerse themselves in the United Nations ecosystem and gain direct exposure to the work of international organizations and multilateral professionals.
Hosted primarily at the historic Palais des Nations and at UNITAR headquarters in the World Meteorological Organization building, the programme combines expert-led learning, practical exposure, and guided access to Geneva’s multilateral environment. Participants will engage with themes related to international law, global policy, diplomacy, and the work of the United Nations system.

Content
The purpose of this programme is to enable students to deepen their knowledge and develop practical skills in their respective fields of study through direct exposure to the work environment of the United Nations and learning from experienced professionals.
The programme is designed for a multidisciplinary cohort and supports students in building a stronger understanding of how international law, multilateral diplomacy, and global policy processes function in practice. By the end of the programme, participants can expect to have experienced the following key components:
- Receive first-hand lessons and practical insights from UN staff and other international experts
- Witness live multilateral conferences such as the Human Rights Council or other international meetings
- Learn about UN agencies and organizations such as UNITAR, WTO, WIPO, UNHCR, and others
- Develop core diplomatic and professional skills including public speaking, leadership, and negotiation
- Gain access to UN premises such as the Palais des Nations and other agency headquarters
- Receive insights into career development and professional opportunities within the United Nations system
Participants
The United Nations International Law and Policy Immersion Programme is open to students from Newcastle University across different academic disciplines, including modern languages, law, and geography, as well as other relevant fields linked to international affairs.
The programme is intended for students seeking first-hand exposure to the United Nations, international law, public policy, and multilateral diplomacy in Geneva. In order to ensure the highest quality standards, a maximum of 30 participants will be registered per edition. Welcome packages, cultural activities, and accommodation arrangements are included in the package. At the end of the programme, all participants will receive a UNITAR certificate of completion.

- Create your own profile on the UNITAR event page and fill out the required sections
- Review the correctness of all information and choose payment method: (i) credit card or (ii) bank transfer
- If you choose credit card, your payment is definite and is completed immediately on the spot
- If you choose to pay by bank transfer, your payment is not definite yet and could be delayed to a later point in time
