UNITAR held an online public event “Nuclear Weapon Abolishment and a Sustainable Future – A Call from Hiroshima” to commemorate the 76th anniversary of the Hiroshima atomic bombing.
Co-organizers for the event were the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA), Hiroshima Prefecture, and the Hiroshima Organization for Global Peace (HOPe).

Nearly 20 diplomats and government officials from Asian countries completed the UNITAR Hiroshima Nuclear Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Training Programme, held 13-18 February 2023. The diplomats updated their understanding of the global nuclear debate and met young activists to learn about their initiatives for a nuclear-free world. The programme’s past two cycles were run virtually due to COVID-19-related restrictions. Learning about nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation in the symbolic city of Hiroshima offered participants a deep learning experience.

23 December 2022, Hiroshima, Japan – On October 7, Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU) and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) signed a collaboration and cooperation memorandum. The two institutions aim to strengthen their cooperation through development projects in entrepreneurship and digital technology.

Three young people will be awarded for their videos featuring the youth’s role in digital innovation and promoting sustainable peace.
Youths can submit video entries for the award until 15 June, following guidelines for the UNITAR Video Challenge.
