23 July 2014, Geneva, Switzerland - The first meeting of the Preparatory Committee of the World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction opened in Geneva on 14 July, convened by UNISDR as part of the preparations of the World Conference scheduled for March 2015 in Sendai, Japan. 24 July 2014, Geneva, Switzerland - UNOSAT just released its latest analysis over the Zaatari Camp in Jordan. The camp, thought to be home to over 80,000 Syrians who have fled from the violence in their country, has been monitored by UNOSAT since its birth as part of the humanitarian rapid mapping effort deployed by the satellite programme in support of UNHCR, OCHA and other humanitarian agencies operating in Syria and in neighbouring countries hosting Syrian refugees.
