25 September 2012, Geneva, Switzerland - Following recent heavy monsoon rains in Baluchistan, Punjab and Sindh provinces in Pakistan, the UN Development Programme (UNDP) activated the UNOSAT rapid mapping service to obtain satellite derived maps of the affected regions. To carry out the work UNOSAT triggered the Space Charter to bring to the UN the advantage of fresh satellite data provided free of charge by the space agencies participating in this international mechanism. Managing migration well: for more inclusive and resilient cities

Quito, Ecuador – While migration is a global phenomenon, with 1 in 7 people in the world an internal or international migrant, the effects of migration are most felt at the local level. Already, more than half the world’s population lives in urban areas with 3.9 billion people set to move to city centres by 2030. Electronic waste in 13 Latin American countries rose by 49% between 2010 and 2019, roughly the world average, but just 3% was collected and safely managed, a fraction of the 17.4% global average, according to the UN’s first assessment of Latin America’s e-waste volume, legislation, and management infrastructure.
