Leading up to the 2023 G7 Summit, UNITAR and UNITAR Association held the Hiroshima G7: Voice of the Youth dialogue last 17 April 2023.
Seven youth from the G7 countries living in Hiroshima shared their experiences in Hiroshima and discussed Hiroshima’s role in promoting global peace.
Approximately 140 attendees joined the session, who had the opportunity to learn more about the panellists' views on Hiroshima’s role in promoting global peace and other global issues.

21 July 2023, Hiroshima, Japan – The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) held ceremonies in Tokyo and Hiroshima to celebrate its 60th anniversary and the 20th anniversary of the UNITAR Hiroshima Office. The ceremony in Tokyo was held at the United Nations University on 29 June, while the ceremony in Hiroshima was held at Mielparque Hiroshima Hotel on 30 June.

Dr Nassrine Azimi is a founding director of the UNITAR Hiroshima Office
While Dr. Azimi was Chief of the UNITAR New York, she was approached by a Japanese academic with an idea to establish an office in Hiroshima. With the support of Hiroshima Prefecture, it was realized and she became the first director there.
Since then, UNITAR has been bringing learners from developing countries to the heart of the city, next to the Atomic Bomb Dome and the Peace Memorial Park in Hiroshima.
