3 February 2021, New York, USA (Virtual) – The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) New York office announced the launching of “Harnessing Climate & SDG Synergies to Raise Ambition in the Era of Paris+5 and Pandemic Recovery” an online course series in collaboration with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) and United Nations framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC).

26-27 January 2021, New York, USA (Virtual) – The United Nations Institute for Training and Research New York Office (UNITAR) kicked off the new year with a three-day orientation course on the Economic and Social Council for members of the council on Tuesday, 26 January 2021. The first session was delivered virtually with over 100 delegates participated, from different parts of the world The training was supported with funding allocated from the Swedish International Development Agency’s (SIDA) contribution to the UNITAR Strategic Framework Fund, under the programme ‘Leveling The Playing Field’ which focuses on the development of skills and knowledge of Least Developing Countries.

December 2020, New York, USA.- The United Nations Assistant Secretary-General and Executive Director of UNITAR, Mr. Nikhil Seth, was in New York city from 9 to 11 December to have meetings on the sidelines of his official visit to the United Nations Headquarters.

16 December 2020, New York, USA (Virtual) – The United Nations Institute for Training and Research successfully concluded the three-day virtual seminar with its event partners, the Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nations and Generation Amazing. Generation Amazing is an organization geared toward youth that uses football to encourage sustainable development, specifically through the principles of gender equality, inclusivity, teamwork and leadership, ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Doha. This seminar was designed for Generation Amazing’s 15 Youth Advocates, who are a group of young Qataris and non-Qatari residents living and studying in Doha.

14 December 2020, New York, USA (Virtual) – The United Nations Institute for Training and Research New York Office successfully launched the first day of a three-day virtual seminar with its event partners, the Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to the United Nations and Generation Amazing. 7-11 December 2020, New York, USA (Virtual) - The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) New York Office delivered five separate training sessions on Security Council related issues for the Irish delegates. Ireland was elected as a member of the Security Council in June 2020 by the members of the General Assembly along with Mexico, Norway, India, and Kenya. Ireland will serve a two-year term in the Security Council, starting 1 January 2021. UNITAR has thus far completed its security council training series for all the delegates from all the newly elected Member States. The training was attended by 22 participants from the Mission of Ireland to the United Nations.

30 November 2020, New York, USA – The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) New York Office concluded its second day of sessions of “A Practical Look at the UN,” a training designed and delivered by H.E. Ambassador Mr. Mootaz Ahmadein Khalil, former Permanent Representative of Egypt to the United Nations (2012-2014).

16 November 2020, New York, USA (Virtual) – The United Nations Institute for Training and Research hosted a two-day virtual webinar together with its event partner, a prominent international non-profit alliance in the field of culture, the Global Foundation for the Performing Arts (GFPA). The public webinar consisted of two half-day sessions, lasted from 9:30 am (EST) – 11:30 am (EST) on 16 and 17 November 2020.

18 November 2020, New York, USA (Virtual) - The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) New York Office (NYO) hosted a second training session entitled “Conflict Resolution in the Era of Political Polarization” as part of an ongoing partnership with the Columbia Law School Mediation Clinic. Ambassador Marco Suazo welcomed the more than 170 participants to the event and introduced Professor Alexandra Carter who facilitated the event’s presentation and introduced the rest of the team who helped lead the discussion. This training was supported with funding allocated from the Swedish International Development Agency’s (SIDA) contribution to the UNITAR Strategic Framework Fund, under the programme ‘Leveling The Playing Field’ which focuses on the development of skills and knowledge of Least Developing Countries.
