9 February 2012, Hiroshima, Japan - Mayor of Hiroshima Kazumi Matsui had a first meeting with members of the Green Legacy Hiroshima (GLH), led by Tomoko Watanabe and Nassrine Azimi. The Mayor expressed his love of trees and his full support to the initiative.
February 2012, Geneva, Switzerland - The new application, called “CyberMappr”, has been developed within the Citizen Cyberscience Centre (CCC), created by UNITAR, CERN and University of Geneva as an incubator of new tools involving citizen-to-citizen cyberscience. CyberMappr uses the internet to connect volunteers to each other and to a group of expert analysts at UNOSAT with one common mission.
February 2012, Tirana, Albania – A Mid-term Review Workshop and a National Chemicals Management Database Planning Meeting was held in Albania on 9-10 February 2012, under the framework of a national project for the implementation of the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM).

10 February 2012, Geneva, Switzerland - Fuelled by its data-in-hand strategy, UNOSAT’s production capability is growing steadily. The number of products, maps and analyses, rolled out by the Programme has been growing since 2009 with peaks in 2010 and 2011.
January 2012, Conakry, Republic of Guinea – In the framework of the project “Developing an Integrated National Programme for the Sound Management of Chemicals and SAICM Implementation in the Republic of Guinea”, a National Forum on Governance and Priority Setting for SAICM Implementation was held from 25 to 26 January 2012 with the participation of UNITAR.
January 26, Geneva, Switzerland – UNOSAT took delivery today of its second UAV in a little over one month, this time a so-called quadrocopter. This latest model will be used to diversify UNOSAT’s mini-UAV fleet and to complement the Programme’s local mapping capacity. The quadrocopter is particularly suitable for close-up assessments and inspections and it is able to acquire aerial imagery and videos over the same location for a given period of time.

January 2012, New York, USA –“A wonderful workshop with very good teachers!” This delegate’s observation aptly sums up a successful year for the New York Office: in 2011, it planned, organized and evaluated 39 workshops (with over 70 days of training), trained over 1400 participants from Member States, UN staff and civil society, and secured new strategic partnerships with academia and the private sector. Building on these successes, UNITAR NYO will expand its thematic focus in 2012 and engage new partners.
18 January 2012, Geneva, Switzerland – The relationship between Swiss universities and UNOSAT continues to grow with success. As of January this year, UNOSAT shares its know-how with students of the University of Geneva in a new area, that of Geomatics. This discipline, also known as geospatial technology or geomatics engineering, is about gathering, storing, processing, and delivering geographic information, or spatially referenced information.
