Workshop on Achieving the SDGs at the Local Level
24 September 2018, Curitiba, Brazil – The International Training Centres for Authorities and Leaders in Curitiba (CIFAL Curitiba) and in Antwerp (CIFAL Flanders) joined efforts to host the workshop “Achieving the SDGs at the Local Level”.
In 2015, world leaders adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and a set of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). All of the SDGs have targets directly related to the responsibilities of local governments and communities. Their achievement will also depend on actions taken by cities and territories.
The main objective of the event was to explain the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and to discuss the role the community, the private sector and local governments play in fulfilling the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The workshop took place at the University Centre of Curitiba (UNICURITIBA) in Brazil and included a presentation on sustainability and how the SDGs where created, a reflection on the SDGs at the local level, where participants in a brainstorming exercise discussed what actions the City of Curitiba could take to help achieve the global goals. At the end of the workshop, the role of training and capacity building to advance sustainable development was also highlighted.
