19 December 2024, New York, USA – The Global Diplomacy Initiative (GDI) had its Closing Ceremony at the United Nations Headquarters for the Fall 2024 cohort. Hosted by the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) New York Office (NYO), the event honored the 14 fellows who completed the rigorous program designed to deepen their understanding of the United Nations and global diplomacy.
The ceremony began with opening remarks from Mr. Marco Suazo, Head of Office at UNITAR New York, who expressed his pride in the fellows' dedication and growth throughout the program. Fellows took the stage to share reflections on their experiences and insights from their final papers, offering a glimpse into the depth and diversity of topics they explored. Notable GDI faculty members, including Ms. Larisa Schelkin, provided guidance and encouragement to the graduates, highlighting the significance of their contributions to the diplomatic community.
The event concluded with the ceremonial handover of certificates by Mr. Marco Suazo and Ms. Larisa Schelkin, followed by a guided tour of the UN Headquarters. For many fellows, this visit symbolized the culmination of their journey, providing an inspiring close to an enriching program. The Fall 2024 Cohort exemplified the values of cross-cultural collaboration and the pursuit of shared goals, leaving a lasting impression on their peers, faculty, and mentors.
