UNITAR Hiroshima concludes Second Anti-Corruption Workshop for the Sahel Region
4 March 2016, Hiroshima, Japan - The UNITAR Hiroshima Office successfully completed the second workshop of the UNITAR Hiroshima Law Enforcement Anti-Corruption Training Programme for the Sahel Region. Supported by the people of Japan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Japan, participants from law enforcement related organizations from 8 countries in the Sahel region of Africa - Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria and Senegal - undertook intensive training in Tokyo and Hiroshima, Japan, between 22 and 28 February.
Workshop II focused on building the skills of the participants, particularly around Coalition Building, Management of Change and on giving them the skills to train others through 'Training of Trainers'. The workshop also allowed the Fellows to experience Hiroshima's reconstruction and peace story first hand, including through undertaking a study tour to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park.
The workshop was led by several resource persons, including Mr Thierry Vircoulon, Project Director for Central Africa, International Crisis Group; Mr. Bryan Hopkins, Training Consultant, Bryan Hopkins Consulting; and Marta Cali, Consultant, UNITAR Hiroshima.
The participants made courtesy calls to show their appreciation for the support shown for their countries, including to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Japan; the Hiroshima Prefecture Governor's Office; and the Mayor of Hiroshima City.
Participants will undertake asynchronous training modules prior to the programme finishing.
