5 November 2019, New York, USA - The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) New York Office held a afternoon follow-up training session, as an extension of the October training course titled, “Training for New Delegates of the Permanent Mission of Sudan to the United Nations” at the Permanent Mission of Sudan to the United Nations.
The training, which took place on November 5th, was led by Ms. Susan Goard, Training Coordinator at the Dag Hammarskjold Library. Ms. Goard briefed the Diplomats on online and in-person resources the Dag Hammarskjold Library offers to Diplomats. She defined different types of UN documents and publications, as well as helped the Sudanese diplomats understand document symbols and how to locate materials they may need.
Ms. Goard offered the participants a very interactive session, in which they were able to apply the skills they were learning on in real time. After a new task was taught, such as how to locate documents through document symbols on ODS, the Sudanese Diplomats would be given an exercise to locate certain documents on their own. Ms. Goard made sure the Sudanese Diplomats were familiar with resources such as the Official Document System (ODS), UNITE Search, and the UN Digital Library.
The Sudanese Diplomats enjoyed the interactive afternoon session, and were able to take away important knowledge on how to best utilize the many resources made available by the Dag Hammarskjold Library. This extension of Octobers two-day intensive training has further equipped the Diplomats with useful skills to navigate through the United Nations System.
