3 March 2026, Geneva, Switzerland — The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) is pleased to announce the continuation and expansion of its partnership with AFS Intercultural Programs for the 31st Session of the AFS Youth Assembly, which will take place in Geneva from 12 to 14 August 2026.
Building on a successful collaboration in 2025, including UNITAR’s contribution to the high-level observance of International Youth Day, which convened more than 800 young leaders, this strengthened partnership reflects a shared commitment to equipping youth with the competencies required to navigate and shape today’s multilateral landscape.
For over 60 years, UNITAR has been a leading provider of diplomatic training for United Nations Member States, international organizations and government officials, strengthening capacities to advance sustainable development and promote effective global governance. Through this collaboration, UNITAR will contribute its expertise in multilateral diplomacy, global governance and sustainable development to enhance the learning experience of Youth Assembly delegates.
“At UNITAR, our mandate is to strengthen capacities for a more effective and inclusive multilateral system,” said Mr. Julian Caletti Associate Programme Officer at UNITAR.
Our continued collaboration with AFS reflects our commitment to ensuring that young leaders are not only present in global discussions, but fully equipped with the forward-looking competencies, digital literacy and diplomatic skills envisioned under UN 2.0.
The 2026 AFS Youth Assembly, titled “Rise. Reimagine. Rebuild: A World for All,” will bring together hundreds of young leaders aged 18–35 from over 100 countries. The programme will focus on four key themes: development as a human right; climate resilience and policy innovation; future-ready education; and bridging divides in a polarized world. Delegates will engage in plenary dialogues with global leaders, skills-based workshops, networking opportunities, and social impact initiatives.
Through this partnership, UNITAR reaffirms its commitment to supporting youth as essential partners in advancing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and strengthening inclusive multilateral cooperation.
Applications for the 2026 AFS Youth Assembly are now open.
