9 December 2025, Geneva, Switzerland – The 7th annual Steering Group Meeting of UN SDG:Learn, hosted by UNITAR, gathered representatives from UN SDG:Learn partner organizations on 13 November 2025 to review 2025 progress and shape the platform’s future ahead of 2030.
UN SDG:Learn is a United Nations initiative that serves as a global platform and partnership hub providing curated, accessible learning resources on sustainable development. It connects a diverse community of UN agencies, academia, civil society, and the private sector to offer courses, certifications, and practical tools aligned with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. By fostering collaborative knowledge sharing and capacity building, UNSDG:Learn aims to empower individuals and organizations worldwide to accelerate progress toward the 2030 Agenda and beyond.
Opening remarks by Ms. Mihoko Kumamoto (Director, Division of Prosperity, UNITAR) and Mr. Patrick van Weerelt (Head of UNSSC Knowledge Centre for Sustainable Development) celebrated milestones, including over 1 million users on the platform.
Partners reviewed key performance indicators and received updates from the AI and Communications Working Groups, as well as from the Task Forces on Inclusion and SDG4Business.
The heart of the meeting came alive in the breakout rooms and plenary, where partners delivered a unanimous and energising call: UN SDG:Learn must evolve from a content aggregator into a true co-creation powerhouse. Academia, UN entities, private sector, youth, and SMEs should jointly design, fund, and deliver transformational learning, with open educational resources as standard, meaningful certification, vocational pathways, far greater localization, experiential projects that produce shareable outcomes, and bold new communities for youth, SMEs, and cross-cutting SDG transformations.
Partners also stressed the urgency of accelerating impact. Joint Secretariat of UN SDG:Learn (UNITAR and UNSSC) announced an upcoming independent evaluation in 2026 to guide the next generation of UN SDG:Learn.
