October 2011, Geneva, Switzerland. Peacekeeping Training Programme of UNITAR, in partnership with the African Leadership Centre of King’s College London, offered, an executive training course on “Leadership, Team work and Team Management in Peace operations from 17 to 21 October 2011”. The course was attended by 25 experienced women and men, and sponsored by the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs Political Affairs Division IV, Human Security (PDIV / FDFA). The course was delivered in the face-to-face format in the African Leadership Centre in Nairobi, Kenya.   Working in conflict and post-conflict settings requires a distinct set of skills and knowledge for productive leadership and for results-oriented and successful team management. The structure of peace operations often involves the cooperation of many individuals working towards a common mission mandate where the importance of teamwork and healthy group dynamics are critical for achieving efficient and productive, collaborative efforts. The need for management, leadership, teamwork and problem diagnosing and solving are essential components for a successful peace operation.   The general objective of the course was to provide participants with an overview of leadership, team building, and problem diagnosing and problem solving techniques, applicable to the specific context of a peace operation.
