10 September 2025, Geneva, Switzerland – As the world faces pressing challenges to sustainable development, young scientists are at the forefront of innovation and change. To recognize and encourage outstanding contributions, the World Association of Young Scientists (WAYS), the Wenzhou Growth Foundation for Young Scientists, and the UNITAR Affiliated Center – Global SDGs and Leadership Development Center, with the support of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR), have jointly launched the 2025 Young Scientist Sustainable Development Goals Award (2025 Young Scientist SDGs Award).
The award honors young scientists who have achieved remarkable breakthroughs in basic research or technological applications that contribute significantly to the advancement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Up to five laureates will be selected globally. Each awardee will receive USD 136,000 (pre-tax), along with the following benefits:
- International visibility and global engagement: Opportunities to participate in high-level platforms and global initiatives.
- Research application and talent support: Access to resources that help promote and implement research outcomes, and linkage to local talent development programmes.
Special Note: Through the UNITAR special track, the application deadline has been extended to 10 September 2025, 23:59 (GMT+8).
The award ceremony will be held on 24 October 2025, during the World Young Scientist Summit in Wenzhou, China.
