Promoting Public-Private Partnership for Sustainable Development 6 September 2016, Quito, Ecuador - UNITAR’s Decentralized Cooperation Programme in collaboration with the Government of Ecuador hosted the webinar on “Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) for Sustainable Development” aimed at providing a space for discussion on how PPPs can be leveraged for sustainable development and help achieve the SDGs and implement the New Urban Agenda. More than 100 participants attended the webinar, representing local governments, private sector, civil society and academia from Latin America and Ecuador.

This webinar is part of a series of online seminars offered jointly with the Ecuadorian Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (MIDUVI) in the framework of the preparatory process of Habitat III. The webinars have contributed to achieve the following key objectives:

Promote the discussion of key themes related to Habitat III
Raise awareness about the New Urban Agenda and facilitate a dialogue on the key elements for its implementation

Dr. Corinne Namblard, Senior PPP Expert and Advisor at the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), and CEO of INFRA & P.E Advisory delivered the presentation during the webinar. Dr. Namblard highlighted the importance of PPPs to advance sustainable development and to address global challenges that surpass the capabilities of one single sector or actor.

The concept of PPPs was also discussed and presented as a form of public procurement to efficiently deliver public services. Dr. Namblard also stressed that partnerships should primarily focus on people and introduced the concept of People-PPPs.

Even though there are diverse concepts about PPPs and in some cases it is seen as negative, it was noted that PPPs are a tool! It is nothing more than that. “We can't allow ideology to block the usage of PPPs and a joint effort with stakeholders is very much needed to advance sustainable development”. Dr. Namblard said.

About the speaker

Corinne Namblard is a French and international Business Woman and Executive. She is the Chief Executive Officer of INFRA & P.E Advisory based in France and Australia. Quite an international expert, she spent more than 10 years in North America and, more recently, 4 years in Australia, which has allowed her to develop skills and expertise not only in Capital Markets, Investment Banking and Project Finance, but also in leading and managing a private equity investment fund. Corinne has also held various international Non Executive Directorships with large listed and private companies and has sat numerous prestigious advisory mandates over the years in France and around the world.
