At UN Headquarters in New York, UNITAR trains diplomats in a broad variety of International Law courses, including international trade law, intellectual property law, law of the sea, treaty law and human rights law.   UNITAR’s work in this field is to build Member States’ capacities and to support their common understanding of the many aspects of international law. Each year, UNITAR partners with the World Trade Organization (WTO), the United Nations Office of Legal Affairs (OLA), the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), to name a few, to develop seminars on topics of international trade law, international intellectual property law, treaty law and practice, law of the sea and the international protection of human rights.   Two points distinguish UNITAR trainings and make them unique:

First, based on more than 40 years of experience, UNITAR today relies on the training expertise it has accumulated since its founding in 1965. The success of its trainings is based on the balanced mix of pedagogical concepts used: Depending on topic, setting and audience, the formats UNITAR employs range from expert presentations and peer-to-peer learning, to panel debates, case studies and simulation exercises.

Second, UNITAR trainings are conducted by experienced trainers who are not only knowledgeable in their respective areas of expertise, but who also build on many years of teaching and facilitation experience as adult educators.   For further information, please visit our webpage at www.unitar.org/ny/international-law-and-policy
