28 March 2011. UNITAR’s International Law Programme launched its new e-course on the Law of Treaties. Fifty-two participants from 39 countries, most of whom are government officials from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and staff from International Organizations, were selected to take this course.

The course on the Law of Treaties is aimed at providing theoretical and practical knowledge of the rules and principles that constitute the Law of Treaties, focusing on the stages of conclusion, the operation, modifications and termination, interpretation of treaties and their suspension and invalidity. 

The e-course allows participants’ flexibility, being able to work at their own pace, anywhere and anytime. Esteemed experts in international law, such as Professor Makane Moïse Mbenque and Dr. Eric De Brabandere, are moderating the course and guiding participants in their learning process.

UNITAR has granted reduced fees for participants from least developed countries, developing countries and countries with economies in transition. In addition, 12 fellowships awards were available exclusively to applicants from least developed countries.

The e-course on the Law of Treaties is the first of a series of courses on various current topics in International Law which will be implemented by UNITAR. The development of this first e-course has received the financial support from the Swiss Confederation through the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. So far, we have received a very positive feedback from participants of the course.
