First e-Learning Course on "Introduction to Sustainable Consumption and Production in Africa"!
E-Learning Course, 5 September – 28 October, 2016
4 August 2016, Geneva, Switzerland - Transitioning towards Sustainable Consumption and Production (SCP) is key to achieving the 2030 Sustainable Agenda. The course “Introduction to SCP in Africa” provides policy makers and other stakeholders with an introduction to SCP, as an approach to enabling sustainable societies in Africa.
This is the first course of its kind, developed specifically for the needs of the African region. The pilot edition took place 5 September – 28 October 2016 in French and English language.
Here are some aggregate statistics from the pilot edition of the course:
- 108 change agents from 33 African countries participated
- 90% certification rate
- 100% indicated they found the course useful
- 88 practical Action Plans for advancing SCP across the continent developed.
UNITAR is particularly pleased with the practical dimension of this pilot e-course, captured in the final bullet – 88 Action Plans developed and many of them being implemented across the African continent!
Participation in the course only required only basic internet connection and a total of 32 learning hours over an 8-week period (4 hours per week). For more information on the course structure, methodology and learning objectives, please consult the course flyer in English and in French language.
The course has been developed jointly by the UNITAR and the United Nations Environment and delivered within the framework of the SWITCH Africa Green Project and the 10 Year Framework of Programmes on SCP. With support from the UNEP SWITCH Africa Green Project and 10YFP, a limited number of fellowships has been made available for participants from Africa working in the public sector, academia or NGOs.
