28 August 2025, Curitiba, Brazil - The International Training Centre for Authorities and Leaders in Curitiba (CIFAL Curitiba) jointly with the Escola Sesi de Referência Internacional de Londrina and the Colégio Sesi Internacional successfully concluded the virtual learning session 'Diplomacy in Action-Shaping Global Agreements at COP's'.
The session brought forty secondary school students to learn about the upcoming United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP) 30 to take place in Belém, Brazil from 10 to 21 November 2025, deepening participants' understanding of international agreements and the importance of diplomacy in developing global solutions to address global challenges with sustainable solutions.
Led by UNITAR’s Green Development and Climate Change Division Specialist Ms. Cristina Rekakavas and Ms. Lisa Maina, students participated in collaborative exercises and negotiation simulations, equipping students with global perspectives on international diplomacy and necessary skills to lead climate change dialogues in their community. UNITAR experts shared experiences in COP events, youth engagement in the COPs, and the role of capacity building in strengthening climate negotiations.
By the end of the lecture, students were equipped with the knowledge and skills to:
- Research how different countries participated in previous COP convenings
- Analyze outcomes and common priorities in climate change negotiations
- Identify patterns and constraints in climate change adaptation from various country contexts
This session in collaboration with UNITAR, Escola Sesi de Referência de Londrina and CIFAL Curitiba provides a unique opportunity for youth to explore the role of international diplomacy in shaping global climate policies and driving positive change. Through experience sharing, we aim to empower students with the knowledge and skills for negotiation and collaboration in multilateral settings.
